Psychologically, the orange color is used to promote joy and happiness, increase concentration, creativity and energy. It enhances emotional health and encourages socialization. It’s a great color to use in offices or entertaining areas.

The negative effects of too much orange may be tiredness, pessimism or confusion. Blues and greens are compliment colors that will balance the effect.

Physically, yellow is used to treat headaches, skin conditions, rheumatism, paralysis and indigestion. Too much yellow could encourage hyperactivity. Balance it with shades of blue.

Color Therapy Red and The Base Chakra

The color red is associated with the base chakra and linked to the spine, hips and legs, plus the kidneys and the bladder. It is a warm, stimulating color and thought to strengthen willpower and courage. It also helps raise low blood pressure and energize people.

Decorating With Red

The negative effects of red can be overstimulation. People with anger issues or high blood pressure may aggravate their circumstance if too much red is used. Pink is an excellent substitute or just use a few red accents. Sky blue is the compliment color to red.

Color therapy is based on the seven colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. According to ayurveda, there are also seven energy centers in the body, each on e associated with one of the colors. If a person’s chakra is weak or out of balance, the color associated with it will help strengthen it.

The following 7 posts of an 8-post series titled “What Is Color Therapy” will take a deeper look at each of the colors, what chakra it is associated with and how you can use it to help make decorating decisions.
