Innovations in Floorcovering - Modern Area Rugs
The art of interior decorating takes on a whole new meaning with the new crop of area rugs. Vibrant colors and unconventional patterns are taking the ordinary room to the extraordinary. Wool and nylon are still heavy favorites, but unusual materials such as leather or cork are making their points known.
While custom rugs are still favored by interior designers for their unique patterns, many cutting edge designers are doing their takes on unusual patterns. Jenifer Kobylarz has created a collection for Warp and Weft using large scale concepts taken from natural imagery. Her organic shapes and rich palette lend themselves well to any room.

Wool rugs are made in a variety of shapes and sizes, including round, rectangular and oval. Because wool can be dyed easily, wool rugs are an easy palate for the contemporary designs that are defining rooms with style and color. The contemporary styles range from bright and bold floral, to geometric designs both large and small, avant-garde inspired designs, animal print and even soft and fluid shapes. Many of the contemporary designs look like works of art alone, and can serve as inspiration for color on walls and furniture choices in the surrounding areas. Wool rugs are also ideal foils for the home trends of hardwood flooring and travertine or slate tile, in addition to the fact that the natural wool fibers can add warmth in the winter and stay cool in the summer. The advantages to using a wool rug are many; they can protect the flooring underneath in a high-traffic area, which can be used in a large space to buffer noise.

Making your house a welcoming comfort zone is easy when you decorate your space with contemporary wool rugs. Rugs made with wool, which is a soft, natural fiber made from hair shorn from sheep, can be more durable than other fibers, stain resistant, and even flame retardant due to the natural qualities of the fiber. Some of the different ways that the rugs can be constructed are by hand knotting, weaving or braiding, hand tufting, or machinery made, and the method by which they are made can greatly influence the price of the rug. The natural fibers of wool are superior to those used in synthetic rugs for many reasons. They are an eco-friendly choice because they are made from a renewable resource that is naturally non-toxic, non-allergenic and biodegradable.
