Innovations in Floorcovering: Area Rugs for 2009

Five Hot Area Rug Designs For 2009

Area Rugs: Contemporary - Modern Interior Design

The art of interior decorating takes on a whole new meaning with the new crop of area rugs. Vibrant colors and unconventional patterns are taking the ordinary room to the extraordinary. Wool and nylon are still heavy favorites, but unusual materials such as leather or cork are making their points known.

While custom rugs are still favored by interior designers for their unique patterns, many cutting edge designers are doing their takes on unusual patterns. Jenifer Kobylarz has created a collection for Warp and Weft using large scale concepts taken from natural imagery. Her organic shapes and rich palette lend themselves well to any room.

The Shaggy Eyeball rug from www.sofarsonear.com will wow you with its hand woven wool and highly defined landscape. Custom colors and sizes available. So Far So Near offers a wide variety of hand tufted styles, as well as hand knotted in kinetic, modern styles.

Area Rugs: Contemporary - Capel Rugs - Modern Interior Design

Capel Rugs offers affordable alternative to the custom lines with trendy, unique products of their own. Following the “hair-on-hide” furniture trend comes a resurgence of animal skins for rugs. Cowhides in varying colors and sizes dominate the market. Their Four Corners introduction combines small squares of premium leather cut and sewn together to create a sort of mosaic design. The result is a stunning and textural appearance.

Area Rugs: Contemporary - The Rose Rug - Modern Interior Design

Taking the textural leather rug idea several steps further is Vivida designer Svetlana Shellshear. Her Rose rug offers stylized floral motifs composed of leather in dimensional layers of blossoms and leaves. Svetlana Shellshear’s arty, painterly style is original and fresh for interiors.

The new rugs offer a more unique approach to interior decorating. These styles mentioned are not content to be the backdrop, but rather the statement. Choose furnishings with restraint in order to not compete.
